TACHI-S Original Monozukuri System

In TACHI-S, there are departments in charge of advanced functions working on future trend analysis of the automobile or automobile seating, planning and conceptualizing future products, design engineering, technology development and production engineering. They work together as one team, creating attractive products of the future and developing original technology and production methods.
For our mass produced seats, we also use a Simultaneous Engineering approach for development, to streamline the entire development process from product development to delivery to the customer. As a Global Seat System Creator, we've been working on our Monozukuri in an integrated system from R&D to Production, aiming to "Deliver Inspiration To Our Customers Worldwide", with our high quality products that are attractive yet affordable.

Functions of the Monozukuri System

Advanced Development / Future Technology Development

These functions are in charge of development of technologies, products and designs to be used for future vehicles. Some of the development themes are based on new ideas, and some require new technology development. We plan our own development themes as an independent seat system supplier. In our development activities, we develop new products and technologies sorted by elements: they are classified to raw material (such as trim cover/polyurethane/plastic/steel), mechanism, equipment or electric components, and for performance such as safety and comfort.

In an effort to win new business, these functions provide the information received from the customer to other departments and group companies as necessary. The information includes new model concepts required by the customer, development schedules, or sales plans for mass produced vehicles. It allows TACHI-S to pull the strength in the entire group together to demonstrate its best performance and be awarded.

Design Engineering

The work flows from holding pre-production activity kick off (by Sales Dept), creating a plan diagram (layout/shape/parts), detailed styling, prototyping to testing. After following the cycle, there will be a design drawing issuance. Development work makes full use of virtual data including 3D drawings and CAE (Virtual testing) and virtual assembly based on the CAD data . After going through several design reviews (DR), the design is finally approved and the drawing gets issued. After the issuance, the project gets handed over to the departments in charge of Monozukuri. But cooperating with other departments involved in the project remains critical.

In order to achieve design freeze for mass production in an early development phase, members involved in the project get together in the prototype study room to evaluate the manufacturability and quality of the seat. Issues extracted in the study are to be followed to make inprovements based on the knowledge and skill of the relevant departments.
