1940

The dawn of the automotive seat business

The company supplied seats for "Tama Junior", an electric vehicle manufactured by Tokyo Denki Jidosha Co., Ltd. (Later became Prince Motors, Ltd.). These are the first of our automotive seats assembled with our springs.

1950

Recognized as an integrated seat manufacturer and started receiving many orders

Seats for Nissan BLUEBIRD (310) are the first self-developed and designed seats for the company.  The company also received an order for seats of the first SKILINE, and since then SKILINE has been a representative model with our seats.

1960

Manufactured the first made-in-Japan seats for Goryosha

The company manufactured the seats for Goryosha, a car specially designed for the Japanese Emperor and the Imperial family (Nissan Prince Royal). Engineers integrated various ideas and pursued a basic layout, shape and performance of the "throne seat" to meet its unique requirements.

1970

Expansion of business: Seats for airplanes and buses

The company established Nihon Aerospace Corporation and manufactured seats for airplanes. The company also made a foray into the bus seat business and expanded its business from automotive seats to other fields.

1980

Invention of TACHI-S original technology, Adhesion Molding Method

The company invented the Adhesion Molding Method (bonded trim cover method). Seats produced with this method were installed into various vehicles.

1990

Back-to-back developments of original seating technologies

The company pursued differentiation from competitors and developed "Pour-In-Place polyurethane foam technology for headrest" and "Long Slide Rail". Those technologies later became mainstream in the industry.

2000

Development of global standard frames

The company developed seat frames which pursued light weight, and took the first step in expanding the standardized frames into the global market.

2010

TACHI-S has been continuously proposing the future of seats.

The company offered a newly developed concept seat that featured the optimized support for the human body while minimizing seat surface area with a new high strength framework to streamline the seat structure, and also proposed a customization system which applied TACHI-S sewing technologies.
